SilverKey is structurally flat and geographically distributed. "Management" role does not really exist because majority (95%) of the company are geared to production and production only.

The path of promotion is available for both technical leading positions and project/product positions - this way we can avoid managers that have two or three top tiers managers which in turn overrule decisions made by people several layers under them.

Majority of decisions are made as close to the ground as possible.

I am not a big fan of "middle management".

And I don't want people to get complacent as it is the case when people move to those hidden clouds of "management". This is how companies grow fat and boring - it has too many "has beens", people that no longer care about their craft and clinging to their "managing positions".

This will allow us as a company to grow leaders, not just managers.

And if people really excell at what they are doing, we will spawn a new division or company for them. There is no need to wait for years to climb the corporate ladder. There is no ladder. We are in the business of making companies and entepreneurs out of people.
