With the objective of building tomorrow’s business and technology leaders, the Faculty of Engineering will join IBM Academic Initiative to be the first university in the Middle East that benefits from IBM’s initiatives in the Education Sector.

Dr. Aly Abdel Rahman, President, Supreme Council of Universities, Dr Samir Shaheen, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Eng. Amr Ghoneim, GM IBM Egypt have met to announce this new partnership.

The partnership comes under IBM’s Academic Initiative®, a worldwide program through which IBM supports Higher Education Institutions with instructional, learning and noncommercial research opportunities to better educate millions of students worldwide for a more competitive information technology (IT) workforce.

By joining, faculty members and students will gain access to IBM software, hardware, training and course materials for their use and implementation into curriculum and research.

IBM will provide an assortment of zSeries (Mainframe) courses to the faculty members to increase their eServer zSeries skilled resource base with the objective of better preparing students for the local and international job market and to start a career in the On Demand Business™ era.

The IBM Academic Initiative provides a free access to IBM zSeries eServer, that has long been recognized for the rich set of features they offer, including sophisticated workload management technology, dynamic logical partitioning and an array of self-managing, self-optimizing and self-healing tools giving the students the opportunity to build their knowledge through IBM scholar’s training courses.

As for IBM Software family of products; all members of the IBM Academic Initiative will have Enterprise-level access to software through developerWorks, a technical website for developers that provides a wide range of tools, code, and education on DB2®, Lotus®, Rational®, Tivoli®, and WebSphere® as well as on open standards technology such as Web services, Wireless, Linux®, XML, Java™ technologies, and more.

By providing focused and relevant technical information for developers, IBM is offering choices that the faculty can apply for building and deploying applications across heterogeneous systems. Using developerWorks, the students and researchers can take full advantage of open standards and the IBM Software Development Platform in an on demand world.

“We are very pleased to partner with Faculty of Engineering , Cairo University in this program that will keep the faculty and the students on the cutting edge of Technology. The demand on trained and skilled resources in SW development, and in zSeries is increasing on local and international levels” “ said Amr Ghoneim , General Manager IBM Egypt. “We are confident that this partnership will be a fruitful investment, both for IBM and for the IT sector in Egypt as a whole.”
