Microsoft Robotics Studio August CTP is out

Another release of Microsoft new technology for robotics is now available for free download, the new CTP includes some new features and enhancements like

New Simulation Features

The simulation engine now supports modeling joints for controlling articulated robotic arms. To help demonstrate and illustrate how to do this we have also added a simulated model of the beautiful Kuka LBR3 robotic arm. (And check out the new sky effect too.).

New Robot Services

We've update our support for the LEGO Mindstorms NXT services to include support for sensors and regulated motor control.

We've also added services to support several new robots including:

  • Kondo KHR-1
  • LynxMotion Lynx-6 Robotic Arm
  • Parallax BOEBot BASIC Stamp robot
  • RobotConnection Traxster (using the Serializer board)

Also there are new services to support:

  • GPS devices
  • Inverse kinematics
  • Video capture (using IEEE-1394/Firewire and USB cameras)
  • Text-to-speech (requires the Microsoft Speech SDK)

Also there are now readme files to document the joystick, gamepad, and mouse services.

New Authoring Support

We've updated our common definitions for motors and encoders and added definitions for light sensors, sonar, and articulated arms. And we improved support for generating proxies with auto-generation of type constructors for the proxy types. And we've made it easier for you to author JScript gadgets in the browser.

New Tutorials

We added two new tutorials to show you how to get started with Python (using the free download of Microsoft Iron Python) and included a new tutorial for how to create a service using VB.Net.

There's also a new simulation tutorial to show you how to model robotics arms. And finally, if your favorite isn't yet supported, there's a new Robotics Tutorial 6 that shows you how interface with any robot that can't natively run our runtime.
